Today's Disappointment

I am delighted in the passion that Ranger fans are continuing to have.  However, one single slip up seems to dispell any hope and confidence we built up after such a surprising and impressive season last year.  If you don't remember, people like ESPN, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports etc. projected us to place 3rd or 4th, and be well below .500.  We proved them wrong.  We outperformed expectations, even when our offense was severely out of character.  This year, we have the 2nd best farm system in the league, 2nd youngest roster in the league, and one of the lowest payrolls.  Yet we're still projected by many to win the West.  That is some pretty exciting things.

There are 162 games.  We've played 3.  We let 2 slip away.  BUT....what made our offense wretched last year was strikeouts.  We're smack dab in the middle of the pack in that now.  If we're making contact, the hits will begin to fall in no time.  Let Hamilton be for now.  He had a great spring.  Vlad and Nelson are on fire.  It's nice to have that many big guns.  If one is cold, the others will pick him up.

As for pitching:  We have two starters who can strike people out with ease.  We had....ZERO last year.  That's exciting.  Plus, we have plenty of people waiting in the wings if, and when, the injury bug hits.  Frankie blew a save.  OOPS!  Rivera does sometimes too.  Don't forget the 17 straight scoreless appearances Frankie had to start the season off 365 days ago.  I don't remember anyone calling him a bum then.

Why must we be so destructive so early in the season?  I'm as passionate as any about the Rangers...maybe even more.  And since I'm in a state where I don't know another Ranger fan (NE), I have to make the extra effort to stay in touch with the team.  But I do know that baseball is a chess match.  You'll lose games.  You'll win games.  Your best players will choke.  Your worst players will save the day.  That's baseball.  That's why it's so great.  You can get knocked down and get right back up and deliver the next day.  There will be slumps.  There will be hot streaks.  Let's let the boys play a few weeks before we start calling for someone's head.

Good God!!!  Baseball's hear!!!  Let's ENJOY IT!!!
